LET’S PUT THE “I” IN ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
By Bill Liepis, a Citation for Meritorious Service Recipient
As we enter Rotary Foundation month, it is timely to ponder the visionary impact of Arch Krumph on today’s Rotarians throughout the world community. As illustrated in the November Rotarian, the Foundation that started so humbly with one small donation in 1917 has truly become a “mighty lever to move the world”.
How do you and your club become a force in applying this leverage?

Bill Liepis
It’s as simple as being a player in an international (the “I”) global grant. Not all clubs are positioned or motivated to be the lead primary sponsor club. Yet it is a real possibility for any club to be a contributing player. By doing this you add pressure to the Foundation lever. Each dollar donated by a club or individual Rotarian to a global grant, receives a match of $.50 from the Foundation World Fund … your $200 becomes $300 to do even more good. Additionally, after accounting for all the D7600 club dollars promised for a given grant there will be an allocation of District Designated Fund (DDF) credits that will be converted to real dollars and matched on a $1:$1 basis by the World Fund when the grant is approved. The impact of these matches is gives even more lift to make a sustainable and worthwhile difference.
District 7600 clubs have a positive record of service in our local communities through the annual allocation of DDF to District grants and club self-funded projects. Why not consider how to” stretch your community” to do service in the Caribbean (child health), Costa Rica (economic development), Liberia (water), the Philippines (child health), Rwanda (medical team training), or Uganda (water). All these countries have in process applications being sponsored by D7600 primary clubs that are ready and willing to share the joy and satisfaction of doing good around the world with willing contributing partners. There is no bottom line for what a club might want to commit but rather the willingness to be a part of a bigger impact. And should your club have a member(s) that have a passion borne out of an association with an international club consider being the lead sponsor for D7600.
Whatever the motivation feel free to contact your D7600 Grants Team for more information, a global grants course “101”, or to point you to a contact for one of the in-process grants: Chuck Arnason, Stephen Beer, SuAnne Bryant, or Bill Liepis.

breakout that this writer particularly enjoyed was the Engaging Humanity in India – National Immunization Day (NID) presented by Colleen Bonadonna (New Kent) and Cora Huitt (Bon Air). The breakout was a sensual visit to a typical NID in India. From soft lights, incense, tea, bindis, and actual photographs from NIDs in which Colleen and Cora had participated, the session was a sampling of the adventures volunteers experience on NIDs. These two 7600 Rotarians demonstrated that it is not only our donations, but the time volunteered by Rotarians by which we Embrace Humanity.

Rotarians across the District are getting excited, especially those who cannot find various Rotary Foundation Recognition items such as Paul Harris Fellow Pins and other swag. We have received many queries on ‘how can I get a replacement for my PHF pin +4 or my Paul Harris Society Pin?’

This article by Debbie Wall (Colonial Heights), District Secretary and District Communication Officer, is the first in a series of three articles describing the steps for Club Foundation Chairs (CFCs) to take in order to access club giving reports. This article addresses setting up an account in ‘My Rotary’ which is the first step in the CFCs having such access. Next week (August 23) the article will address ‘assigned positions’ which is step 2. Already have a My Rotary account? Click on Foundation Reports and see what you can see.
Thank you to the 60+ Rotarians who attended the District Foundation Workshop on Saturday, August 6th. Another 30+ attended the Membership Workshop. The attendance level was amazing considering that many district Rotarians were involved in the Newport News 100th birthday celebration with luminaries such as the Rotary International President John Germ, and Congressman Bobby Scott in attendance.
sure that Club Foundation Chairs have access to and know how to use the Club Foundation giving reports. There were many questions about that topic during or after the presentations. There were also a number of questions about becoming a Benefactor.
District 7600 Rotarians broke Foundation Giving records in the 2015-16 Rotary year. We shattered the per capita giving record with our Rotarians giving at a per capita rate of $211.44. We also broke records by donating a total of $718,358. I wrote about this in the July Spirit of 7600, the District Newsletter which published on July 30. Did you miss it in your email inbox? Who should register? Register if you are a club membership chair or a member of a club membership committee. Register if you are a club Rotary Foundation chair or a member a club Rotary Foundation committee. Register if you are a committed club member and want to learn more about how to help your club excel in one of these areas. Register if you are a newer Rotarian and just want to learn anything you can about the greater world of Rotary. Register if just want to get out of your Saturday rut. Isn’t it boring spending every Saturday mowing, golfing, watching cartoons, shopping, or sleeping-in. Sleep is overrated, by the way. Register if just want to spend some great time with other Rotarians. We are such an optimistic, humane, and witty bunch of folk.
You’ve heard there have been changes in Club Giving Banners. What happened to Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY)? What about Sustaining Members? With these changes how does a club encourage giving to The Rotary Foundation? Rudy Garcia and the Development team has answers to these and other questions. This is a great chance to meet the entire Development team.
there any clubs in the district that we can join with in a big global grant? My club did apply for a District Grant, if we get the grant, how and when do we document our progress? Everything is online now. Isn’t that hard to do? SuAnne Hardee Bryant and her Grants team will answer those questions and allay those concerns.
