inIt is really just a little more than a week away from the District Training Assembly (DTA) and the Foundation, Membership, & Public Image Seminars.
Every club should expect its officers and directors to attend this one-time only Rotary club training for the upcoming Rotary year and every club should encourage its members, especially newer members, to attend the training. The DTA is on April 27th, 2019, at Old Dominion University, Webb Center, 1301 49th Street, Norfolk, VA.
It only costs $50 and includes free parking, breakfast, & lunch. And then there is all of the information, ideas, and connections with fellow Rotarians from across the district.
Need more information. Go to the April 27th block on the dacdb.com calendar and read all about it and while there, r-e-g-i-s-t-e-r.
08 Friday Mar 2019
The Grant Management Seminar is on March 16 and any club wanting to receive a District Grant or be a participant in a Multi-Club District Grant must have at least one person (more are welcome) attend the GMS.
So be sure that your club is in the game! Go to dacdb.com calendar and register for Pete’s sake.
You can take a look at and download the training documents that will be used at d7600foundation.org. https://d7600foundation.org/grants-scholarships-2/
Two of the documents are the Memorandum of Understanding or MOU and the Top Ten Tips for applying for a grant.

The Peace Fellow application is a demanding but rewarding process, beginning with a club recommendation to the District of a vetted and club endorsed candidate. Then ensues an intense District level interview and further vetting process
Michael Little of the Rotary Club of Richmond is the District’s Peace Fellow Chair and can provide assistance in the process. His contact information can be found in dacdb.com of course.
For your initial information, you can download this fact sheet provided by The Rotary Foundation. The District will have its own internal guidelines and deadlines. Contact Mike for District 7600 specific information.

Registrations are being accepted now for the annual spring Peace Conference at the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center. The event normally sells out, so register soon at:
You can register now for Grant Management Seminar (GMS) on March 16, 2019, on the dacdb.com calendar. Don’t let your club let this opportunity slip by to be eligible to apply for or participate in a Rotary grant.
15 Friday Feb 2019
Incoming District Rotary Foundation Chair, Stephen Beer, promised that registration for the Grant Management Seminar to be held on March 16 would be open by February 15th. By golly, it is open! In fact, Rotarians from the Western Henrico, Chester, and Prince George Rotary clubs have already registered.
For a club to be eligible to apply for and receive a Rotary grant, it must have had at least one member attend a Grant Management Seminar (GMS) for that grant year. It is recommended that a club have more than one club member attend because:
You might note there will be a GMS Webinar on April 20th. More details will follow about it. Attendance at either the March 16 Seminar or the April 20th Webinar will qualify the club to apply for a Rotary Grant. Registration for the Webinar will be open at a later date.

Rotary is serious about waging peace: “Through our service projects, peace fellowships, and scholarships, our members are taking action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, ethnic tension, lack of access to education and unequal distribution of resources.”
February is Rotary’s Peace and Conflict Resolution Month. Clubs, through their district and global grants, are often getting at the underlying causes of conflict, one ‘starfish’ at a time.
District 7600, the South Hill Rotary and the Prince George Rotary have joined many other districts and clubs in the US and other countries in a series of global grant projects in Ghana to supply borehole wells, micro-flush toilets, schools and school libraries to outlying communities. There are other components as well, such as solar collector power units, and disease prevention supplies.
Past District Governor, Stephen Beer, and Assistant Governor (Area 6), Shel Douglas, are on the ground now in Ghana, representing this district and our clubs in this complex series of grants.
Access to potable water, proper sanitation, education, access to electricity and other facilities, do so much to raise the quality of life, provide access to economic development, and resources for the future of the young.
Rotarians are waging peace, being the inspiration, and connecting the world.

Out of curiosity, do you know what the acronym DRFC stands for? Not to belabor the point, DRFC refers to the District Rotary Foundation Committee. It is also used as the acronym to identify the Chair of a district’s DRFC.
Do you know who currently holds the DRFC title in District 7600? Do you know how long a DRFC serves? Has there ever been a woman DRFC in District 7600? What does the DRFC (committee) do? For that matter, what does the DRFC (Chair) do?
Assuming you know anything about the DRFC, who has been your favorite DRFC? Why? Who have been the most recent DRFCs?
An informal poll was taken of recent Past District Governors to assist in reconstructing the list of prior DRFCs and the years they served. The past DRFCs relied on their memories or referred to treasured souvenir district directories so accuracy may be suspect.
It appears that before 2007 the term for a DRFC was one year. Past Rotary International Director Joe Mulkerrin served for five years, and after that, the DRFCs have served for three years.
Now who will be our DRFC when Past District Governor Chuck completes his term in June?

Chuck’s tenure as the District Rotary Foundation Chair (“DRFC”) ends on June 30, 2019, but our banquet on November 8th will be his last Foundation Awards Banquet as the DRFC.
It is poetic that his last banquet will celebrate the district’s first $1,000,000 year in 2017-2018. Past District Governor ({DG) John D. Padgett and DRFC Chuck Arnason want to celebrate the clubs and devoted Rotarians responsible for this stellar year of generosity. As PDG John’s theme stated “Rotary: Making a Difference.”
You may remember that previously to Chuck challenged Rotarians to give, give, give and in exchange he would shave his head. Well, they did and he did.
This year he has made no such challenge, but maybe we could give him a special thanks for his innovation of the recognition points match on “Giving Tuesdays, the special promotion of Benefactor promises, and his strong support of the Paul Harris Society, which he once chaired before becoming District Governor … oh so long ago.
He and PDG John are proud also, that this year District 7600 has two generous donors inducted into the e Arch Klumph Society.
But, Chuck & John salute all Rotarians who dipped into their accounts or their estates to support the work of The Rotary Foundation.
So, you have tonight (November 3) and tomorrow (November 4) to register for the banquet. Because of headcount reporting requirements, there can be NO walkins for the banquet.
Join PDG John and DRFC Chuck Thursday for the Banquet, but register Now on dacdb.com.
Need help. Contact Carol Woodward at woodwardcd@aol.com. Her cell phone number is in dacdb.com. Just search in “Find a Member”.
01 Thursday Nov 2018
If you haven’t registered yet for the District 7600 Foundation Awards Banquet, you still have a few days to sign up on dacdb.com. We want a great turn out to help celebrate the generosity of the D7600 Clubs and member donors. After all, 2017-18 is our very first M I L L I O N Dollar giving year.
First off, register yourself and/ or your spouse/significant other, so you have someone to chat with on the road.
Secondly, if you are reading this on Facebook, “like” it and write a comment about your own Rotary Foundation story. Do this even if you have already registered. Next share it to your own timeline or any Facebook page on which you may post.
Finally, there are fourteen clubs which are on the Awards list which have not had anyone from the club register. If you can put a bug in the right persons’ ears to get those clubs represented, it would be super much appreciated.
Those 14 clubs are:
Bon Air, Brandermill, Emporia, Farmville, Great Bridge, Mechanicsville, Newport News, Norfolk Sunrise, Petersburg, Powhatan, Richmond, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Virginia Peninsula.

28 Sunday Oct 2018
Zoe Romano, our most recent District Global Scholar, has just returned from her two years of graduate study and volunteer teaching in South America and she will be our Keynoter at the Banquet.
Zoe was nominated to District 7600 as a Global Scholar candidate by the Rotary Club of South Richmond (SRRC to those in the know). She and SRRC had developed a relationship when she ran the Tour de France route to raise money for medical supplies for children as part of an SRRC project.
Because of that relationship the South Richmond club committed to the sometimes frustrating and long-lived application process for Zoe. The District approved her candidacy and allocated funds to her scholarship. Fortunately, The Rotary Foundation supported her application in April 2016, and the entire South Richmond club went on vacation.
We don’t want to share too much more here because we want there to still be some things for you to learn about her on November 8th. We will tell you that since returning from her studies, she and William Byers have married, honeymooned, and are now free to join us as we honor our clubs and members for their generosity in this first mi$$ion dollar year of giving in District 7600.
Please come and meet Zoe and William on November 8th in Williamsburg. You will also have the chance to talk with some of the SRRC folks if your club has an interest in supporting the candidacy of a global scholar. Register on dacdb.com

A cash bar reception with light appetizers precedes dinner and attendees may purchase wine by the bottle for their tables.
Back by popular demand, we have Jeff Paul at the keyboard and this year he will be accompanied by his vocalist Kathleen Plutz. Showtunes, classics, and some oldie faves are in the repertoire.
Ken Hodge-Past Pierce Award Recipient
Forty-Four clubs will receive Foundation recognitions. Ten Rotarians from the district will receive District Service Awards. The Outstanding Alumni Award and the Pierce Foundation Leadership Award will be bestowed upon two very deserving Rotarians from District 7600. How many of your friends will be among the recipients?
The time is now to register. While you are at it, please register your spouse or significant other, or potential Rotarians, as guests. Wouldn’t suggest registering both your spouse and your significant other. Just a little joke.

The 2017-18 year was very rewarding for District 7600. Our members and clubs contributed or bequeathed over one million dollars ($1,000,000) to The Rotary Foundation. It is our first Mi$$ion dollar year. And we have every member and club contributor to thank!
Yes, the theme for Past District Governor John D. Padgett’s year was definitely about Rotary: Making a Difference.
Join the District at the Rotary Foundation Awards Banquet on November 8, at the Colonial Heritage Golf Club, in Williamsburg and help celebrate the generosity of the Rotary Clubs and Rotarians who will be recognized on that evening.
Our Keynote Speaker is Zoe Romano, our District Global Scholar. Zoe was endorsed by the Rotary Club of South Richmond for the Global Scholar program and nominated to the District which approved her and endorsed her to Rotary International. She has completed her two years of study in Central and South America, returned to her home in Maine, and married her fiance, William Byers, on the weekend of our District Conference, of all things.
As always, register on dacdb.com. Consider bringing your spouse, a newer club member, and/or one of Rotaractors as guests. Click HERE to see a full-size flyer of the image above.
More in the next blog about the awards. Hope to see you on November 8th.

Joy Kline, our most excellent District Annual Giving Chair, reports that 15 clubs in District 7600 have not entered their Foundation Giving Goals into My Rotary. These Goals help both The Rotary Foundation and the District 7600 Rotary Foundation Committee fashion strategies to educate members about The Rotary Foundation and to help members find their most comfy giving niches.
Let’s say you are the club president or the club Rotary Foundation chair. Verify whether the club’s giving goals have been entered at MyRotary.org. Six people in the club are eligible to check club goals … the president, the club secretary, the executive secretary (if the club has one), the treasurer, the membership chair, and, you guessed it, the club’s Rotary Foundation chair.
Each of the above persons will have his or her own username and password. Anyone who doesn’t can simply create an account by following the instructions on myrotary.org. It is easier than setting up an Amazon account.
Graphic by Debbie Vance (for the promise of a donation to TRF) she will include your club name and/or District number on the meme. Contact Carol Woodward for more information.
Please respond with a comment either on this blog or on our facebook page Rotary D7600 Rotary Foundation Committee.

Davetta Rhinehart*, President of the Rotary Club of Warwick at City Center, Newport News, is thrilled that her club will be honoring Vadim Ostrovsky at a reception on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. The reception is at 5:30 pm and is followed by a program at 6:15. The invitation is open to all, though Davetta would appreciate hearing from anyone planning to attend. She just wants to be sure that there will be enough appetizers for Rotarians. The Reception will be at the Virginia Living Museum at 524 J Clyde Morris Blvd, Newport News 23601. Learn more information about the club and the reception at the club’s website.
The title of this blog was the title of the 2018-19 Peace Conference at the Duke-UNC Peace Center in May of 2018. Each year the seven peace centers each has an event to mark the work and research of its graduating Peace Scholars. There are only 100 each year worldwide. Vadim is one of District 7600’s newest Alumni Members. He resides and works in the greater Richmond area. We will learn more from him on the 29th about the Peace Fellow program and about his own work and commitment to peace.
For your convenience, you may print this pdf Peace Fellow Program – August 29 2018.

It was a day filled with information, suggestions, innovative ideas and just a little bit of fun. We were all there to equip ourselves to “Be the Inspiration”. The Colonial Heritage Country Club in Williamsburg may never be the same. And Rotarians are innovative. Sometimes they switched seminars. Gotta love these D7600 Rotarians
Lead by the District Newsletter Editor and Public Image Chair, JoAnn Meaker, the 25 or so Rotarians in the Seminar, enjoyed intimate surroundings, printed materials, and demonstrations of the EZ Bulletin feature on dacdb.com. LaShonda Delivuk, Public Image Chair from District 7570 also inspired the attendees with her presentation on the interplay between membership and public image.
The takeaway, oft repeated in the plenary sessions was “Membership, it’s the only thing.” 35+ Rotarians in the Membership seminar were led capably by District Membership Co-Chairs, Mike Jallo, and Shel Douglas. LaShonda Delivuk also spoke in this session about the synergy between membership and public image. No one will know our Rotary stories unless we have members to share their stories and unless our members share them.
Approximately 42 Rotarians attended this session. Chuck Arnason, Rotary District Foundation Chair, and his team of Rudy Lee Garcia (Development), Joy Kline (Annual Giving), Bill Billings (Endowment), Appaiah Ballachanda (Paul Harris Society), Stan Wall (Polio Plus), SuAnne Hardee Bryant (Grants), and Don Vaught (Grants Auditor). Just when one thinks there is nothing new to learn, Foundation-wise, there arise new requirements. In this session, SuAnne focused on global grants, and our featured speaker Shel Douglas spoke on the more formal Community or Needs Assessments required of global grant applications. The materials from The Rotary Foundation Seminar on d7600foundation.org on The Foundation Workshop Materials 2018 page. There were no slides or handouts for the Paul Harris Society (PHS) as Appaiah is a walking cheerleader for the PHS.
JoAnn Meaker designed the STARS meme and hashtag #STARS to help promote the workshops. Dana Rieves, JoAnn Meaker, and Prince George Electric Cooperative provided the stellar door prizes. David Rosenthal made all aware that it was also National Mustard Day. We decided to inspire every registrant to bring a new, unopened container of mustard to donate. Those who forgot often donated cash instead. Neva Lynde and her fellow James City County Satellite Club volunteered to carry the mustard to the FISH Food Bank.
The photos are part of the fun … thank Dianne Gordonn, Bill Billings, Jan Rowley, Chana Amaro and others who took many photos and shared them freely.
