GMS, Grant Management Seminar, March 16, PDG Stephen Beer, Williamsburg

Register on dacdb calendar

Incoming District Rotary Foundation Chair, Stephen Beer, promised that registration for the Grant Management Seminar to be held on March 16 would be open by February 15th. By golly, it is open! In fact, Rotarians from the Western Henrico, Chester, and Prince George Rotary clubs have already registered.

PDG Stephen Beer in Ghana

A bit of nitty-gritty

For a club to be eligible to apply for and receive a Rotary grant, it must have had at least one member attend a Grant Management Seminar (GMS) for that grant year. It is recommended that a club have more than one club member attend because:

  • that one person might win the lottery and decamp for the islands
  • that one person might have napped off during GMS and missed something really important
  • carpooling is a way to share ideas on the ride home

You might note there will be a GMS Webinar on April 20th. More details will follow about it. Attendance at either the March 16 Seminar or the April 20th Webinar will qualify the club to apply for a Rotary Grant. Registration for the Webinar will be open at a later date.

2017-2018 Foundation Awards Banquet November 8, Colonial Heritage Club:

T1718_ENThe 2017-18 year was very rewarding for District 7600.  Our members and clubs contributed or bequeathed over one million dollars ($1,000,000) to The Rotary Foundation. It is our first Mi$$ion dollar year. And we have every member and club contributor to thank!

Yes, the theme for Past District Governor John D. Padgett’s year was definitely about Rotary: Making a Difference.

Join the District at the Rotary Foundation Awards Banquet on November 8, at the Colonial Heritage Golf Club, in Williamsburg and help celebrate the generosity of the Rotary Clubs and Rotarians who will be recognized on that evening.

Facebook Meme

Our Keynote Speaker is Zoe Romano, our District Global Scholar. Zoe was endorsed by the Rotary Club of South Richmond for the Global Scholar program and nominated to the District which approved her and endorsed her to Rotary International. She has completed her two years of study in Central and South America, returned to her home in Maine, and married her fiance, William Byers, on the weekend of our District Conference, of all things.

As always, register on dacdb.com. Consider bringing your spouse, a newer club member, and/or one of  Rotaractors as guests.  Click HERE to see a full-size flyer of the image above.

More in the next blog about the awards. Hope to see you on November 8th.

Colonial Heritage Club, Grant Management Seminar, March 24 GMS, MOU, Williamsburg

A little news you can use!

headerSuAnneBruce&DanJones

SuAnne Hardee Bryant (R) Grants Chair

Clubs, have the members you assigned to work on your 2018-19 district or global grant application register for the Grant Management Seminar (GMS) which will be held on March 24, 2018,   Registration is at the dacdb.calendar by scrolling down to the March 24th date.  It will again be held at the Colonial Heritage Club in Williamsburg, Virginia.  It will be from 8:30 until Noon and the price of $25 includes a Full Southern Breakfast.

It is important that a club send at least a couple of grant assigned people so that if one person moves, gets sick, or goes off on a honeymoon, there is another club member who knows the drill.

Last year a very well known club was declined on the first pass. Why?  Because the grant writer had not submitted the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).  Why? Because the grant writer was not one of the three people from the club who attended the GMS.  Happy ending though, the club received its grant on the second pass.

Remember that the grant application process is totally online.  No FEDEX, no faxes, no personal hand deliveries to the Grants Grants Chair.  If you want money for that special project, accept all the training and suggestions you can get.

A GMS webinar will be held in April but it is still in the planning stages and the registration is notyet available for it.

Blog?, Colonial Heritage Williamsburg, dacdb.com Calendar, David Stovall, Geneva Switzerland, International United Nations Day, November 9 Banquet, Ron Ferrill Rotary International Director, Rotary International Director-Nominee, Williamsburg

We get wildly excited when corrections or suggestions are communicated to us.  We mistakenly referred to David Stovall as the Rotary International Director Nominee.  Well, that all changed on July 1 after his election at the International Convention in Atlanta. So we correct yesterday’s blog to incorporate that correction.   We are so delighted to have RIDE (Rotary International Director – Elect as our keynoter on November 9th!

Who is David Stovall?

David Stovall, of the Rotary Club of Hall County, Georgia, is the Rotary International Director-Elect (RIDE) elected at the Convention in Atlanta to represent Zone 34 on the Rotary International Board of Directors for the 2018-2020 term.

David Stovall

How has David Stovall saved the Day?

RIDE David has stepped in to serve as our keynote speaker at our District 7600 Rotary Foundation Awards Banquet, replacing Rotary International Director (RID) from Zone 33, Ron Ferrill.  Poor RID Ron was tasked to represent Rotary International in Geneva, Switzerland at the International United Nations Day occurring during the same week as our banquet.

Your help needed to help David feel welcome!

Please register now for the banquet which is on November 9 at the at the Colonial Heritage Golf Club in Williamsburg.  Be sure to register your spouse and/or one of your younger or newer club members as your guests.  This is a great opportunity for a Rotary Family and Rotary Fellowship event.  Where do you register?  Why, on dacdb.com calendar, of course!

Hashtag for the event is #TRF7600

When you have registered for the banquet be sure to announce it on facebook and twitter and use the hashtag #TRF7600 to grab attention. Don’t know what all this hashtag stuff means?  Ask anyone under 30.

Peace & Quiet … for a bit

dacdb.com Calendar, DAF, Foundation Awards Banquet, Interact-Rotaract Conference, November 9, October 28, Peace Conference D7610, Williamsburg

Speaking of Peace …

One of the speakers at District Conference was a Peace Fellow, Patricia Schafer.  She spoke eloquently of how conflict resolution and leadership skills being learned at an early age can contribute exponentially to the cause of peace.  Many of our 7600 Rotarians have attended the annual peace conference at the UNC-Duke Peace Center held each spring.  We are fortunate that District 7610, directly to our North, has an active Peace and Peacebuilders initiative ongoing in its District.  Their annual Fall Peace Conference will be held on October 28 in Fredericksburg.  One of Patricia’s special interests is the NewGen Peacebuilders initiative wherein young folk ages 14 to 24 receive training in conflict resolution and solutions building.

Unfortunately, the 28th is also the date of our District’s Interact-Rotaract Training Conference.  This is a very hard choice for many, but please see what you can do to attend or support either the Peace Conference or the Interact – Rotaract Training Conference.  Every club with either an Interact or Rotaract Club should plan on helping its students participate.  If not engaged in the Interact or Rotaract program in your club, perhaps you would consider attending the Peace Conference.

Registration for both conferences is available on our District 7600 dacdb.com calendar.

Speaking of Quiet …

Most of us survived the Spirit of 7600 District Conference in good order.  Though there were lots of learning opportunities, there was also a lot of fun going on.  Some wee drinks of a special draft beer, or a few sips or two of wine were had, and then there was that 70s party.  Oh, my.  Many of us need to rest up and get ready for the Foundation Awards Banquet on November 9, 2017.  We had a banner year in the 2016-2017 Rotary year, so we expect a lot of interest in attending the Award Banquet at the Colonial Heritage Golf Club in Williamsburg on November 9th.  Registration on the dacdb.com calendar for that event will be available during the week of October 2, but get November 9th penciled into your and your spouse’s calendar now.

Lingering glow from District Conference

From District Conference to Foundation Awards Banquet … the glow continues

Excitement is growing about the Foundation Awards Banquet as it has already been announced that District 7600 achieved two record breaking giving milestones in the 2015-16 year.  The generosity of its clubs and members put District 7600 at #23 in giving out of all of the Districts in the world. Congratulations and thank you to all Rotarians in 7600.

The successful giving year means that there will be a robust Foundation Awards ceremony at the 2016-foundation-awards-banquet on November 10 at the Colonial Heritage Golf Club in Williamsburg.  The District Foundation Committee will be notifying clubs and individuals of their awards shortly and inviting them to participate in the awards ceremony.  By the way you can register NOW for the District Foundation Awards Banquet at the calendar  tab on dacdb.com.

Looping back to the District Conference … India

There were so many amazing, riveting presentations at the District Conference.  One colleen-and-cora-nid-indiabreakout that this writer particularly enjoyed was the Engaging Humanity in India – National Immunization Day (NID)  presented by Colleen Bonadonna (New Kent) and Cora Huitt (Bon Air).  The breakout was a sensual visit to a typical NID in India.  From soft lights, incense, tea, bindis, and actual photographs from NIDs in which Colleen and Cora had participated, the session was a sampling of the adventures volunteers experience on NIDs.  These two 7600 Rotarians demonstrated that it is not only our donations, but the time volunteered by Rotarians by which we Embrace Humanity.

Back at the Conference … Citation for Meritorious Service

probscms

Lynn & Jim Probsdorfer & Past Rotary International Director Sam Orowi

Each year each District nominate a deserving Rotarian to the Trustees of The Rotary to recognize outstanding service of a to The Rotary Foundation by awarding the Citation for Meritorious Service to that exemplary individual.  Only one such citation may be awarded each year in the District.  This year  James A. Probsdorfer (Warwick) was the recipient of the Citation for Meritorious Service.  Jim or Probs, as many call him, richly deserves this special recognition. This Past District Governor and immediate Past District Rotary Foundation Chair steered the District through ‘Future Vision’ (remember that?) into the emerging and now solidified grant and grant management model.  Change can be hard, especially for Rotarians. Probs helped make it happen with grace. Each year during his chairmanship the district broke at least one or two giving records.  Yes, #23 in the world. Congratulations, Probs.

Annual District Workshops …

August 6, Car Pool, Colonial Heritage, dacdb.com, Foundation Advocates, Foundation Workshop, Gossip, Membership Workshop, Register Now, Williamsburg

Haven’t registered yet?  Why not?

The Annual Membership & Foundation Workshops are scheduled for August 6 at the Colonial Heritage Golf Club in Williamsburg.  Roughly about a dozen hardworking District 7600 Rotarians are working now on the event logistics, presentations, and acquiring door prizes.  All we need now are attendees.  To date only 51  Rotarians have registered and we have capacity for at least 300.

Flyer1Who should register?  Register if you are a club membership chair or a member of a club membership committee.  Register if you are a club Rotary Foundation chair or a member a club Rotary Foundation committee.  Register if you are a committed club member and want to learn more about how to help your club excel in one of these areas.  Register if you are a newer Rotarian and just want to learn anything you can about the greater world of Rotary. Register if just want to get out of your Saturday rut.  Isn’t it boring spending every Saturday mowing, golfing, watching cartoons, shopping, or sleeping-in.  Sleep is overrated, by the way. Register if just want to spend some great time with other Rotarians. We are such an optimistic, humane, and witty bunch of folk.

It is also a great opportunity to gossip if you are carpooling with other members of your club.  It is hard to gossip gracefully during club meetings.  Sergeants-at -Arms are not very understanding of such things. Make sure you get your preferred gossipers to register so that you’ll have a roiling trip in the car down to Williamsburg.

There are 64 Rotary Clubs in District 7600.  If we had just two members from every club we’d have 128 attendees.  Four from every club and we’d have … can’t count that high.

You get the idea.  The first food count has to be in on this Friday the 29th. Register now, please, and urge fellow or fella club members to do likewise.  Just go to dacdb.com with your credit card handy and register on the ‘Calendar’ tab.  Just scroll down to the Workshops event on August 6 and hit Register Now. Select whether you want to attend Membership or Foundation Workshop.

Colonial Heritage, dacdb.com, District Grants, Global Grants, GMS, Grant Management Seminar, Register, SuAnne Hardee Bryant, Williamsburg

Does your club need to send a representative to the Grant Management Seminar (GMS) on March 19?  Your club does, if …

  • your club would like to participate in a global grant (GMS is required)
  • your club would benefit from learning how to do a needs assessment for a district or a global grant
  • your club would benefit from leaning about the online grant application process for either type of grant
  • your club would benefit from learning how to monitor and document your grant project from beginning to closeout
  • your club would like to hook-up with other clubs on a global grant

imageSuAnne Hardee Bryant will be presenting on these and other grant related topics on Saturday, March 19 at the Colonial Heritage Country Club in Williamsburg.  It is a morning-only seminar leaving plenty of time for golf or shopping in the afternoon.  There is limited time to register so do so now at dacdb.com.  Have a debit or credit card handy. More details are available when you register.

With existing district grants required to close out before applying for a new district grant (May 15 application deadline), the timing of this GMS is perfect.

Grant Management Seminar — March 21–Williamsburg Colonial Heritage Country Club

GMS, Grant Management Seminar, March 21, May 15 Deadline for District Grant Application, Register Now, Williamsburg

March 21 is the date of the first District 7600 Grant Management Seminar (GMS).  You can register now on www.dacdb.com.  Log on → select ‘Calendar’→scroll down to the event→click on ‘Register Now→input your credit card info and you are set.

Each year The Rotary Foundation (TRF) requires that each club planning to apply for a John PadgettRotary Global Grant have one or more representatives involved in that grant to attend a GMS. This also applies to clubs planning to partner with other clubs on such a grant. John Padgett and SuAnne Bryant have carefully planned an informative, practical GMS, to meet TRF requirements and address practical issues.

Though not a TRF requirement for a Rotary District Grant, the GMS training applies to many required reporting and monitoring processes in District Grant administration.  It is also helpful because club representatives can share tips and suggestions about the application and reporting process as Beth Noakes was able to do at the 2014 GMS.

All clubs should consider having at least one representative at the March 21 GMS.  There will be a GMS Webinar in April, however the 2015 deadline for applying for a District Grant is May 15, so why wait.

So this is a head’s up for District 7600 Foundation Advocates and Club Foundation Chairs — be sureDebbie & Stan at GMS your clubs are aware of this opportunity.  It would be helpful for Adovcates and Club Foundation Chairs to attend as well.  Stan Wall (Area 7 Advocate)  has already registered.  Thanks, Stan

I will be there and I’ll buy a drink (after the GMS) for every Advocate who attends.
