Fundraising Goals for Polio Met:

This week District Rotary Foundation Chair (DRFC) Stephen Beer (Innsbrook) shared an email he received from Chuck Davidson, the Zone 33 Polio Chair. Chuck’s email covered an email from Brenda Cressey, the Immediate Past Chair of The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Part of email dealt with our Polio fundraising and eradication efforts.

Her email reported that the Polio Eradication fundraising goal of last year (2018-2019) of $50 million had been surpassed. This good news comes along with Chuck’s good news that as of July 24, 2019, there were NO new cases of the polio wildvirus in Pakistan or Afghanistan in the seven days prior.

Our own district is part of that success! Colleen Bonadonna (New Kent), our District Polio Chair, has put enormous energy into raising awareness and financial commitment in District 7600 towards eradicating Polio. According to Rudy Garcia (Fluvanna), our district’s Immediate Past Development Chair reports that in 2018-19, our district Polio donations were $107, 894. There was also a District Designated Funds (DDF) match of $57, 616 for a grant total of $165,510 towards Polio eradication.

Rotarians are #peopleofaction and action and action.

End of Year, Erin Groble, Giving Tuesday, November 29 Giving Tuesday, Online Donation, Rudy Garcia, The Rotary Foundation

Have you recovered from the turkey, ham, stuffing, and pies?  Good.  This is a busy time of year in the world of The Rotary Foundation.

Be aware of these tax recognition deadlines sent in by our Zone 33 Giving Officer Erin Groble whom you met her at the Foundation Awards Banquet and Rudy Garcia, our District Development Chair.

” Dear district 7600 leaders,

Erin Groble

As we approach the end of Rotary Foundation Month, Rotarians worldwide are energized by the Rotary Foundation centennial message. Annual Fund giving worldwide is up 11% through the end of October. And, on the heels of World Polio Day, giving to the PolioPlus Fund has increased nearly 22% from this time last year, as Rotarians are responding with urgency to the call to eradicate Polio.

Year-end stock & IRA roll-over gifts

As the end of the tax year approaches, now is a great time to promote gifts of appreciated securities and other gifts from investments prior to the new year.

  • Gifts of appreciated securities can benefit donors by receiving a potential tax deduction for the market value of gift and avoiding unnecessary capital gains tax on the appreciated stock. Learn more about making gifts of appreciated securities.
  • In the US, individuals who are 70 ½ and older can now make tax-free charitable gifts directly from a traditional or Roth IRAs. Learn more about giving through an IRA.

#GivingTuesday is 29 November

Consider making an online gift to the Foundation and encourage Rotarians in your district to do the same. This is a great tactic to help clubs reach their centennial giving goals. Once you give, use the new Facebook frame to show that you’re a proud donor.

  • The club with the highest number of donors who make personal online contributions to The Rotary Foundation on 29 November (CST) will receive a copy of the Centennial book.
  • The district with highest number of donors who make personal online contributions to The Rotary Foundation on 29 November (CST) will be recognized in the Rotarian Magazine.

TRF awarded World’s Outstanding Foundation for 2016

The Rotary Foundation earned top marks from the Association of Fundraising Professionals. “The award honors organizations that show philanthropic commitment and leadership through financial support, innovation, encouragement of others, and involvement in public affairs. Some of the boldest names in American giving.” Read more on rotary.org.

Online Giving interruption

From 3-5 December, Rotary.org users may experience interruption due to enhancements being made to the website. During this weekend period, Rotary.org users may be unable to complete transactions online, including making contributions, registering for the convention, running reports, accessing grant information, and updating member information. Rotary staff will minimize interruptions as much as possible. Please be advised and share with your districts and clubs.

End-of-Year Giving Deadlines

Make sure to share the calendar year end giving deadlines.

  • Online contributions need to be authorized by midnight, 31 December 2016 CST

Planning event around food is tricky …

Rotarians are notorious for registering late for events, even for events that include a meal. Some Rotarians even expect to be able to do a walk-in registration at the time of the event. This is very, very hard on the organizers of the event and the facility providing the meal.

So … please register now …

Logon to  dacdb.com. Go to the Calendar tab.  Scroll down to the Banquet on November 10. Click on register now. Pull out your credit card and ‘Just do it’. While you are at it, register your spouse as well.  Only $45 per person for a scrumptious Americana Buffet. Adult beverages available for purchase. Questions?  You can call, text, or email Carol Woodward if you need more information.  All of her information is on, you guessed it, dacdb.com by clicking on ‘find a member’ and entering her name.

Come help celebrate, in this the Foundation’s 100th year, as the current District Rotary Foundation Chair Chuck Arnason helps the Past District Rotary Foundation Chair James Probsdorfer celebrate the last year of Prob’s tenure during which the district broke two giving records.  Come learn what those records are.

What are the highlights?

Erin Groble

The presentation of 126 awards to over 50 clubs and individuals, presentation of the Alumni of the Year and the Pierce Foundation Leadership awards to singular individuals, a knock-out keynote speech by Past Rotary International Director John Smarge, and a chance to meet Erin Groble, the Rotary International Annual Gifts Officer for Zones 33 & 34. are among the highlights.  Erin was selected for this position in July of 2016 and this is her first visit to District 7600.

Because of you, District 7600 is #23 of all the world districts in giving.  Come celebrate our success!
