Welcome home to the Costa Rica Literacy Global Grant Team:

This was a follow on visit to Costa Rica by members of the Rotary Clubs of Richmond, Huguenot Trails, James River, and South Richmond. This multi-year, multi-club global grant provides books in the English language for a regional Costa Rican school system. On previous visits Rotarians realized that there was a shortage of toothbrushes and toothpaste in the schools. So they chipped in on the side and brought along the much needed items. This grant was featured in the March issue of the Spirit of 7600 which can be found on rotary7600.org. A follow up article will be featured in the May issue of the Spirit.

$52639, Chuck Arnason, Evelyn Wolf, Giving Tuesday, Recognition Points

Giving Tuesday 2018 sets record

District 7600’s second Giving Tuesday exceeded the amount given on Giving Tuesday 2017, as reported by Chuck Arnason, District Rotary Foundation Chair, and he didn’t even have to get his hair shaved off!

Chuck’s message in the May 2018 Spirit of 7600 is reprinted below:

chuckheadshaving

Chuck Arnason giving all for the TRF.

District 7600’s Giving Tuesday was a resounding success in no small part because of the support of Evelyn Wolf of the Rotary Club of Smithfield.  Evie and her late husband, Don, have amassed several thousand Recognition Points over the years as Major Donors and Evie continues to be a supporter of the Rotary Foundation. It was through Evie’s support of Giving Tuesday that we were able to transfer 46,354 to Rotarians in the district. That is up from the 37,252 that were distributed last year.

Total Giving to the Annual Fund was $52,639.00, a 6% increase from 2017 Giving Tuesday’s amount. Just think of how much good those dollars will do towards making a difference through Rotary. Half of those funds will return to the district in three years in the form of District Designated Funds. Those funds will support district and global grants as we continue to “Do Good in the World.” By matching outright contributions with Foundation recognition points a club may reach or even surpass its Annual Fund goal, as well as achieve 100% Paul Harris Fellow recognition. 197 Rotarians received recognition points which is a 20% increase in participation from last year.

I want to thank everyone who participated. Remember, the hopes of people in places you
will never visit and faces you will never see are brighter because of the donation each of you has made to our Rotary Foundation.

What’s ahead:

May 14 – District Grant Applications due through Grants Module in dacdb.com

May 17 – Rotary Night at the Diamond. See club representative for tickets for End Polio Now Game.

August 4 – District Workshops for Foundation, Membership, and Public Image in Williamsburg. Register on dacdb.com in early June.

$229 Per Capita, Annual Fund, DRFC Chuck, Giving Tuesday, Make a Difference in the World, Share, The Rotary Foundation

Thank you, District 7600 Rotarians … a message from your District Rotary Foundation Chair (DRFC)

This message from DRFC/PDG Chuck Arnason appeared in the July/August issue of the Spirit of 7600.  Chuck is away playing at Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston, so this article is printed without his permission :))

A Milestone Giving Year for District 7600 … Donating to a charity is always a very personal decision. We all give to charities because we have some affinity for the organization’s cause or goals.  It is the same with our Rotary Foundation. Rotarians give to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) for a variety of reasons.  We may feel that the cause of making the world a better place through Rotary is a worthy goal. We may be encouraged by the SHARE program which sends money back to the district after three years for district specific initiatives.

During the Centennial

“Doing good in the world” comes in many forms. During the Centennial Celebration of TRF, our district had a very successful year. We were able to establish some new milestones.  Per capita Annual Fund giving was up 8.5% over our previous high to $229.32.  Our total Annual Fund giving was $632,246.42, a new milestone.  Our total giving to TRF for the year was $791,095, up from our previous record of $748,419.  The success isn’t in the numbers but what the increased giving means to communities around the world. The increased giving this year means that people we will never meet and faces we will never see will have a better life through Rotary.

The “Giving Tuesday” effort our district held on May 30 produced contributions of $50,000 to the Annual Fund. By using the matching points offered that day, 47 Rotarians were able to become a Paul Harris Fellow or reach their next level of Paul Harris Fellow.

Whatever your reasons for giving, I want to thank you! Because, as District 7600 Rotarians, you continue to Make A Difference in the world.

Chuck

A total shout out to the Foundation break out at the District Training Assembly

Thirty plus Rotarians attended the Foundation Breakout at the District Assembly.  They

Denya&Trident

Denya Hankerson (Prince George) & Triton

were Club Foundation Chairs, Presidents-Elect, generous donors, district leaders, rank and file club members, and, of course, Triton.  The input and questions ranged from the very newbie and valuable questions to the experienced, nuanced questions.  All of these questions and insight are important.  It is a learning experience for all … for the attendees as well as the presenters.

Thank you for your commitment and interest.

Another total shout out to Stan & Debbie Wall and to David Mansfield as we navigate to the End Polio Now Baseball Games

July 13 is the date for Rotary Night at the Diamond in Richmond and July 24 is the Norfolk Tides Game.  Both games begin at 7:05 pm and a portion of each rotary game ticket sold will be donated by the teams to End Polio Now.

The WallsRTEE7 have red ‘End Polio Now’ t-shirts for sale, $10 for most shirts and $12 for the fulsome 2x and 3x sizes.  A dollar from each shirt sale goes back to End Polio Now.

With this shirt, we can turn the stadium bleachers red and really ramp up the Rotary and End Polio Now profile.

And one more total shout out to District Governor Diane and District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair Chuck Arnason for approving Rotary Giving Tuesday on May 30, 2017.

On Tuesday, May 30, every online Rotary donation by a District 7600 Rotarian of $100 or prouddonormore to the Annual Fund will be matched dollar for dollar with district recognition points.  This is only on Tuesday. Not Monday. Not Wednesday.  Tuesday!

End of Year, Erin Groble, Giving Tuesday, November 29 Giving Tuesday, Online Donation, Rudy Garcia, The Rotary Foundation

Have you recovered from the turkey, ham, stuffing, and pies?  Good.  This is a busy time of year in the world of The Rotary Foundation.

Be aware of these tax recognition deadlines sent in by our Zone 33 Giving Officer Erin Groble whom you met her at the Foundation Awards Banquet and Rudy Garcia, our District Development Chair.

” Dear district 7600 leaders,

eringroblelinkedin

Erin Groble

As we approach the end of Rotary Foundation Month, Rotarians worldwide are energized by the Rotary Foundation centennial message. Annual Fund giving worldwide is up 11% through the end of October. And, on the heels of World Polio Day, giving to the PolioPlus Fund has increased nearly 22% from this time last year, as Rotarians are responding with urgency to the call to eradicate Polio.

Year-end stock & IRA roll-over gifts

As the end of the tax year approaches, now is a great time to promote gifts of appreciated securities and other gifts from investments prior to the new year.

  • Gifts of appreciated securities can benefit donors by receiving a potential tax deduction for the market value of gift and avoiding unnecessary capital gains tax on the appreciated stock. Learn more about making gifts of appreciated securities.
  • In the US, individuals who are 70 ½ and older can now make tax-free charitable gifts directly from a traditional or Roth IRAs. Learn more about giving through an IRA.

#GivingTuesday is 29 November

Consider making an online gift to the Foundation and encourage Rotarians in your district to do the same. This is a great tactic to help clubs reach their centennial giving goals. Once you give, use the new Facebook frame to show that you’re a proud donor.

  • The club with the highest number of donors who make personal online contributions to The Rotary Foundation on 29 November (CST) will receive a copy of the Centennial book.
  • The district with highest number of donors who make personal online contributions to The Rotary Foundation on 29 November (CST) will be recognized in the Rotarian Magazine.

TRF awarded World’s Outstanding Foundation for 2016

The Rotary Foundation earned top marks from the Association of Fundraising Professionals. “The award honors organizations that show philanthropic commitment and leadership through financial support, innovation, encouragement of others, and involvement in public affairs. Some of the boldest names in American giving.” Read more on rotary.org.

Online Giving interruption

From 3-5 December, Rotary.org users may experience interruption due to enhancements being made to the website. During this weekend period, Rotary.org users may be unable to complete transactions online, including making contributions, registering for the convention, running reports, accessing grant information, and updating member information. Rotary staff will minimize interruptions as much as possible. Please be advised and share with your districts and clubs.

End-of-Year Giving Deadlines

Make sure to share the calendar year end giving deadlines.

  • Online contributions need to be authorized by midnight, 31 December 2016 CST
  • Credit card contributions made via fax (847-328-5260), phone (866-976-8279), and mail must be received prior to the close of business (5pm CST) on Friday, 30 December 2016
  • Check contributions must be postmarked by 31 December and must be received by 5 January 2017.
  • Securities must be received in The Rotary Foundation’s gifted securities account by Saturday, 31 December 2016.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I hope everyone’s holiday season is off to a wonderful start!

Best wishes,

Erin Groble.”
