Be there … Richmond … The Diamond!

Baseball 2018Yes, we were rained out in May.  The whole idea had been to have our Richmond area game earlier in the year to beat the heat of July.  Well, we did, but what had not been anticipated was the rain, not a polite, respectful rain, but a deluge of a rain. The Squirrels, rightfully, called the game and helped us reschedule for the June 14th date.

District Secretary Debbie Wall and Past Assistant Governor Stan Wall are recognized as the End Polio Now Rotary Night at the Diamond organizers. These two amazing Colonial Heights Rotarians have full corporate careers, but also make the time to be active regional and District Rotary activities.  This last weekend they were front and center at the Zone 33 Training in Greensboro, North Carolina. A real perk of that event was the opportunity to meet the Rotary International President Elect (RIPE) Barry Rassin and his lovely wife, Esther.

SaM & Debbie Wall

On June 14th they’ll put their red End Polio Now tee shirts back on and greet all comers in the name of Rotary.  Check in with your club Rotary Night representative to get updated on the plan to replace your previous tickets or buy tickets if you hadn’t already.

Tickets are $10, $2 of which goes to Rotary’s End Polio Now … but wait, there’s more. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is matching that $2 by a 2:1 ratio meaning that your ticket will actually result in $6 being donated to End Polio Now in the name of your very own club.  How cool is that?

Play Ball!

A total shout out to the Foundation break out at the District Training Assembly

Thirty plus Rotarians attended the Foundation Breakout at the District Assembly.  They

Denya&Trident

Denya Hankerson (Prince George) & Triton

were Club Foundation Chairs, Presidents-Elect, generous donors, district leaders, rank and file club members, and, of course, Triton.  The input and questions ranged from the very newbie and valuable questions to the experienced, nuanced questions.  All of these questions and insight are important.  It is a learning experience for all … for the attendees as well as the presenters.

Thank you for your commitment and interest.

Another total shout out to Stan & Debbie Wall and to David Mansfield as we navigate to the End Polio Now Baseball Games

July 13 is the date for Rotary Night at the Diamond in Richmond and July 24 is the Norfolk Tides Game.  Both games begin at 7:05 pm and a portion of each rotary game ticket sold will be donated by the teams to End Polio Now.

The WallsRTEE7 have red ‘End Polio Now’ t-shirts for sale, $10 for most shirts and $12 for the fulsome 2x and 3x sizes.  A dollar from each shirt sale goes back to End Polio Now.

With this shirt, we can turn the stadium bleachers red and really ramp up the Rotary and End Polio Now profile.

And one more total shout out to District Governor Diane and District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair Chuck Arnason for approving Rotary Giving Tuesday on May 30, 2017.

On Tuesday, May 30, every online Rotary donation by a District 7600 Rotarian of $100 or prouddonormore to the Annual Fund will be matched dollar for dollar with district recognition points.  This is only on Tuesday. Not Monday. Not Wednesday.  Tuesday!

District Team Training Seminar (DTTS)

Club leaders for the 2017-2018 Rotary year joined District Governor-Elect John Padgett as they exchanged Rotary 7600 goals for the coming year. Known for his sartorial proclivities John did not disappoint wearing chinos with the Rotary logo embroidered on them, all over them.

District Rotary Foundation Committee (DRFC)

Chuck Arnason led the DRFC in a two-hour breakout of its own in the training room closest to the James River.  The views of the river were only mild competition for the discussions occurring within.

drfc-2017-dttsMany things were discussed but most folks can’t handle more than three things at one time so here are three …

  1. Club attendance at a Grant Management Seminar is required for both District and for Global Grants.  This is a change from previous requirements.
  2. Three Grant Managment Seminars (GMS) will be offered this spring, any one of which qualify to satisfy the attendance requirement for a grant. Registration for all of the GMS will be through dacdb.com  and will cost $20.  Registration now available for the March 25 GMS thanks to the District Communications Officer Debbie Wall.
    1. March 25 – Colonial Heritage Golf Club, Williamsburg, VA.
    2. April 8th – Live Webinar, in person in Hampton or at your home computer.
    3. April 29th – Live Webinar, in person in Hampton or at your home computer.
  3. All Club Foundation Chairs, Assistant Governors, and grant involved leaders are encouraged to subscribe to this blog by email (upper left-hand corner).

There are many more important things to share, but we can save those for another time unless you just can’t wait. If so just fill out the contact form below.

Happy Labor Day

Labor Day is a day of reflection and of gratitude to those who have worked so hard to give the ‘working man’ a fair shot at meaningful, safe employment that will support a family and contribute to our country’s prosperity.

So today … in that vein … I salute you, the Rotarians of District 7600, who ‘work’ so assiduously to promote and support The Rotary Foundation.  It seems like an endless effort at times, but as Foundation Advocates, Club Foundation Chairs, Area Governors, and Foundation donors we know that the results of our efforts will survive us and that we leave a legacy of doing good in the world.

Thank you.

The Joy of Information

Do you need a side by side of last years’ club goals and giving and  the club goals for 2015-2016? Many of us need a sense of how accurate and purposeful the current club goals are in comparison to what clubs did last year.  Are current goals unrealistically low or high? Do any of the goals need to be adjusted to be more objective?

So for your use, Joy Kline has compiled a Foundation Report July 2015 which provides the Excel Ladyinformation described above.  She has sorted the information by areas to make it easier for Foundation Advocates, Area Governors, and Club Foundation Chairs to use the information. As she adds other categories of giving to this monthly report, we can slice and dice the spreadsheets so that you get the reports in printable chunks. In the meantime enjoy this first ‘Joy Report’ of the Rotary year and think of her caring efforts to provide news we can use quickly. Though Area Governors and Area Governors have access to the clubs’ reports for their areas and Club Foundation Chairs have access to their own club’s reports, sometimes it is handy to have information already compiled.

Joy, a member of the Goochland Club, is a banker.  In fact, she is the Executive Vice-President of Retail Banking at Village Bank.  Joy is a respected Rotary leader and Foundation Donor.  She is a past Area Governor, a graduate of the Rotary Leadership Insititute, a Foundation Benefactor, a Sustaining Member, and a key member of the Development team of the District Rotary Foundation Committee.  She also has a great sense of humor as exemplified by the Excel spreadsheet skirt she fashioned and modeled at the Foundation Workshop above.

Shout Outs

LT. Governor Mike Jallo for his encouragement of the Area Governors in delegating access to Foundation Advocates.  Also appreciate his cheerfulness and great, great sense of humor.

Foundation Advocate Paul Strong for his email about visiting his new grandchild in Florida.

Foundation Advocate Jim O’Brien for keeping me updated on delegation issues and his contacts with his clubs.

Foundation Advocate Jan Rowley for alerting me to a particular issue with her delegated access.

Area Governor Frank Ferrante for helpfully reaching out to me, even though he was in hospital.

Foundation Advocate Dan Jones for his insightful work regarding club and member recognition points.

D7600 DCO Debbie Wall who tolerates our sometimes whiny requests for help with grace and encouragement.

— Have a super holiday.  Catch you on the flip side.
