A new Rotary year beckons for Foundation Advocates

In less than a month the class of 2015 -2016 Foundation Advocates will complete their duties in that role. With the advent of the 2016-2017 year there will be a new Foundation Advocate structure and a newly defined role for Advocates  as Past District Governor Chuck Arnason assumes the role as the District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair.  There will be more published in the near future about the newly designed Foundation Advocate program.  For now it is provident to recognize the 2015-16 Foundation Advocates and thank them for a job well done.

Foundation Advocates 2015-16

Under the leadership of Bruce Settle, Cindy Pecht, and Carol Woodward, the Advocates Warren Rice, J. O’Brien, Suzanne Luna, Paul L. Strong, and Heather Martin each handled their roles in a different way with varying levels of intensity, but each carried a strong commitment to The Rotary Foundation in their DNA.Their involvement helped us ‘Bee’ a Gift to the World.

Be a rotary nerd … continued

Get your nerd on … analyzing data for your club(s):

Last week we laid the ground work for club foundation chairs (CFCs) to have the My Rotary credentials to access club information and, by extension, Advocates’ access to his or her area clubs’ reports.

Nerdy club reports and how to use them:

There is a ton of club information available, but here the three primary reports are described.  A more detailed description of the reports and how to use them can be found on the ‘Resources and Documents’ page of this blog, 7600advocates.wordpress.com.

The Monthly Contribution Report (MCR) tracks the contribution history in a selected year for the Annual Fund (APF),  Other Giving (things like Polio Plus), and the Endowment (formerly the Permanent) Fund.  Use this report to track progress of the club towards its APF goal, cultivate support for contributions to the Foundation, and identify progress towards club banner recognition for the club.

The Every Rotarian Every Year Eligibility Report (EREY) tracks member achievement towards recognition status of EREY, Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member (RFSM), and towards Paul Harris Society.  Use of this report should be delicate and not for general publication or circulation.  Such information is sensitive and should be used only to assist the CFC and Club President in helping a member track and reach his or her giving goal.

The Club Recognition Summary (CRS) tracks member recognition amounts, dates of last contribution and designation, and the available Foundation Recognition Points.  It includes the number of Paul Harris Fellows, Major Donors, Bequest Society members, Rotarian donors and non-donors, and non-Rotarian donors.  It also tracks all-time giving by the club.  The instructions for this report on the Resources and Documents page includes information on how a club or a member can use Foundation Recognition Points. Again, this report should be treated sensitively.

Shout outs:

To Sylvia Allen of the Lawrenceville club for forwarding a picture after our Foundation Bee all that you can bee 1380843_695846030428583_495469223_npresentation to that fine club.

To Heather Martin, Dennis Wool, Delmar Dayton, Michael Binns, Dan Jones, Carl Duffey, Jan Rowley  who made the attendees at the District Foundation Awards Banquet feel so welcome.  Note that Jan is always ‘beeing’ an Advocate for the Foundation.

To Dana Rieves of the Prince George Club for pitching in … no matter was is asked.

To Charles Moncure, recipient of the 1st James Pierce Foundation Leadership Award.

Happy Labor Day

Labor Day is a day of reflection and of gratitude to those who have worked so hard to give the ‘working man’ a fair shot at meaningful, safe employment that will support a family and contribute to our country’s prosperity.

So today … in that vein … I salute you, the Rotarians of District 7600, who ‘work’ so assiduously to promote and support The Rotary Foundation.  It seems like an endless effort at times, but as Foundation Advocates, Club Foundation Chairs, Area Governors, and Foundation donors we know that the results of our efforts will survive us and that we leave a legacy of doing good in the world.

Thank you.

The Joy of Information

Do you need a side by side of last years’ club goals and giving and  the club goals for 2015-2016? Many of us need a sense of how accurate and purposeful the current club goals are in comparison to what clubs did last year.  Are current goals unrealistically low or high? Do any of the goals need to be adjusted to be more objective?

So for your use, Joy Kline has compiled a Foundation Report July 2015 which provides the Excel Ladyinformation described above.  She has sorted the information by areas to make it easier for Foundation Advocates, Area Governors, and Club Foundation Chairs to use the information. As she adds other categories of giving to this monthly report, we can slice and dice the spreadsheets so that you get the reports in printable chunks. In the meantime enjoy this first ‘Joy Report’ of the Rotary year and think of her caring efforts to provide news we can use quickly. Though Area Governors and Area Governors have access to the clubs’ reports for their areas and Club Foundation Chairs have access to their own club’s reports, sometimes it is handy to have information already compiled.

Joy, a member of the Goochland Club, is a banker.  In fact, she is the Executive Vice-President of Retail Banking at Village Bank.  Joy is a respected Rotary leader and Foundation Donor.  She is a past Area Governor, a graduate of the Rotary Leadership Insititute, a Foundation Benefactor, a Sustaining Member, and a key member of the Development team of the District Rotary Foundation Committee.  She also has a great sense of humor as exemplified by the Excel spreadsheet skirt she fashioned and modeled at the Foundation Workshop above.

Shout Outs

LT. Governor Mike Jallo for his encouragement of the Area Governors in delegating access to Foundation Advocates.  Also appreciate his cheerfulness and great, great sense of humor.

Foundation Advocate Paul Strong for his email about visiting his new grandchild in Florida.

Foundation Advocate Jim O’Brien for keeping me updated on delegation issues and his contacts with his clubs.

Foundation Advocate Jan Rowley for alerting me to a particular issue with her delegated access.

Area Governor Frank Ferrante for helpfully reaching out to me, even though he was in hospital.

Foundation Advocate Dan Jones for his insightful work regarding club and member recognition points.

D7600 DCO Debbie Wall who tolerates our sometimes whiny requests for help with grace and encouragement.

— Have a super holiday.  Catch you on the flip side.

52 Weekly TRF Messages, Area Governors, Bill Billings, Dan Jones, Delegation of Access, Delegation Tool, Dennis Wool, EREY, Foundation Advocates, Frank Ferrante, James O'Brien, Recognition Points

Status Update on Delegation of Access To Foundation Advocates

Friday, August 14, District Governor Gary sent an email to the 17 Area Governors (AGs) instructing them to use the delegation tool to delegate club access through June 30, 2016, to their counterpart area Foundation Advocates.

To-date only 5 and 1/2 of the delegations have been accomplished.  So, you hale and hardy Advocates … if you have not received an email from Rotary International that the AG has delegated access to the clubs in your area, you need to contact your AG and ask him or her to accomplish this important task soonest.

If you need help contacting your AG contact me … 804-691-8486 or woodwardcd@aol.com.  Thanks to the Advocates who have personally informed me that they have received their delegation notices.

Why this delegation Matters

As Foundation Advocates you are the personal representatives of the District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair, Jim Probsdorfer, to the clubs in your areas.  With this access you can look at data and reports for your area clubs. The AG still has access, so, this delegation does two things … it makes it easier for you and your counterpart AG to co-ordinate on assisting clubs in accomplishing  important goals … and it gives you as Advocates the means to fulfill your role as Jim’s liaison with you clubs.
