Changes in Foundation Recognition Banners

Our primary topic today potentially affects every club in our district.  The club banners for giving have been restructured, with possibly the biggest change being the merging of the EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year) and the Sustaining Member recognition banner. The District Foundation Committee Chair, Jim Probsdorfer, has communicated this information already to Club Foundation Chairs and to Foundation advocates, but it is of import to every member of every club.  Many clubs and donors set benchmarks for their giving based on this banner recognition structure.

Dennis Wool Area 11Foundation Advocate Dennis Wool of The Historic Triangle Club was kind enough to provide some comment to the Advocate Chair that it might have been helpful to have it take effect in the next Rotary year, rather than be a fiat accompli for the current year, but that change is change whenever it occurs.

Please check out the details in  CLUB_BANNER_RECOGNITION_OPPORTUNITIES.

And don’t forget the baseball …

End Polio Now Games In July

July 7 (Squirrels)  and July 27 (Tides) are the dates for our End Polio Now Baseball games. Each club has a point of contact through which club members can order tickets for themselves, families, and friends.  The first game on July 7 at the Richmond Diamond Stadium is set to be a high achiever.  The goal is to sell 1000 tickets.  More questions … give Stan Wall  an email at stan.debbie.rotary@comcast.net.  Tickets for the Tides game $10 bucks each with $2 of each ticket donated by the Squirrels to End Polio Now. 2016 Rotary Night Flyer Richmond Flying Squirrels_2. Stan asks that Rotarians and guests were a red tee shirt or an End Polio Now shirt if they have one.

District Foundation Conference Call, EREY, Rotary Direct

Midyear nerding:

As we approach December 31, the midway mark for the Rotary year, all of the District 7600 clubs will be visiting ‘My Rotary’ to check their progress towards achieving the goals they set for the Rotary  year  … Presidential Citation progress, membership, service projects, pubic image, and giving goals for The Rotary Foundation.  Club Foundation Chairs and Foundation Advocates should be actively engaged in helping their clubs assess progress towards the TRF goals.

After visiting seven clubs in the last couple of months, knowing quite a bit about my own club’s patterns, and surveying data for many of the 64 clubs in 7600, three things really, really stand out … Continue reading →

Be a rotary nerd … continued

Get your nerd on … analyzing data for your club(s):

Last week we laid the ground work for club foundation chairs (CFCs) to have the My Rotary credentials to access club information and, by extension, Advocates’ access to his or her area clubs’ reports.

Nerdy club reports and how to use them:

There is a ton of club information available, but here the three primary reports are described.  A more detailed description of the reports and how to use them can be found on the ‘Resources and Documents’ page of this blog, 7600advocates.wordpress.com.

The Monthly Contribution Report (MCR) tracks the contribution history in a selected year for the Annual Fund (APF),  Other Giving (things like Polio Plus), and the Endowment (formerly the Permanent) Fund.  Use this report to track progress of the club towards its APF goal, cultivate support for contributions to the Foundation, and identify progress towards club banner recognition for the club.

The Every Rotarian Every Year Eligibility Report (EREY) tracks member achievement towards recognition status of EREY, Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member (RFSM), and towards Paul Harris Society.  Use of this report should be delicate and not for general publication or circulation.  Such information is sensitive and should be used only to assist the CFC and Club President in helping a member track and reach his or her giving goal.

The Club Recognition Summary (CRS) tracks member recognition amounts, dates of last contribution and designation, and the available Foundation Recognition Points.  It includes the number of Paul Harris Fellows, Major Donors, Bequest Society members, Rotarian donors and non-donors, and non-Rotarian donors.  It also tracks all-time giving by the club.  The instructions for this report on the Resources and Documents page includes information on how a club or a member can use Foundation Recognition Points. Again, this report should be treated sensitively.

Shout outs:

To Sylvia Allen of the Lawrenceville club for forwarding a picture after our Foundation Bee all that you can bee 1380843_695846030428583_495469223_npresentation to that fine club.

To Heather Martin, Dennis Wool, Delmar Dayton, Michael Binns, Dan Jones, Carl Duffey, Jan Rowley  who made the attendees at the District Foundation Awards Banquet feel so welcome.  Note that Jan is always ‘beeing’ an Advocate for the Foundation.

To Dana Rieves of the Prince George Club for pitching in … no matter was is asked.

To Charles Moncure, recipient of the 1st James Pierce Foundation Leadership Award.

To the ‘Rotary D7600 Foundation Committee’ page on Facebook.  ‘Like’ it, please.

EREY, Every Rotarian Every Year Report, Happy Birthday Jim Probsdorfer, Jim Halasz, Larry Davis

Does every member of your club give?

As Foundation Advocates, Club Foundation Chairs, Area Governors, and Club Leaders we walk the walk and others in our own clubs watch us to see what we value.  The District Rotary Foundation Committee exists to assist all of our clubs and their leaders in being the kind of Rotarians they aspire to be.

A couple of weeks ago Ken Hodge, District Development Chair wrote an article on EREY is for Everyone.  In it he wrote “As a leader, the choice for leadership style and process, is yours.  And we, as your District 7600 Foundation Committee will support you in whatever choice you make.  If you want to be a 100% EREY club, we can help with educational programs, committee training, campaign design and implementation, and general hand-holding.  All you need to do is ask.”

Consider being the leader in your club that advocates for EREY, regardless of your title. If we can help … ‘All you need to do is ask.’

A visit to the south boston club

Last week on a beautiful almost Fall-feeling day the South Boston Rotary welcomed me to their meeting at Ernie’s, a superior cafeteria with real home cooked food. President Jim Halasz and Club Foundation Chair Larry Davis spent some time chatting with me after the meeting as we looked over their Club Recognition Summary. Both got excited when they saw how many club and member recognition points they had accumulated and how they could use those points on a matching basis to encourage member giving to the Foundation.

Has your club checked out your recognition points lately?  Need help?  Ask your Club Foundation Chair or Foundation Advocate to assist you in accessing your club’s reports.

Shout outs this week–

Tuesday, September 15 is Jim Probsdorfer’s birthday.  Give the boy a shout and wish him well.

Have a great week — Carol

Happy Labor Day

Labor Day is a day of reflection and of gratitude to those who have worked so hard to give the ‘working man’ a fair shot at meaningful, safe employment that will support a family and contribute to our country’s prosperity.

So today … in that vein … I salute you, the Rotarians of District 7600, who ‘work’ so assiduously to promote and support The Rotary Foundation.  It seems like an endless effort at times, but as Foundation Advocates, Club Foundation Chairs, Area Governors, and Foundation donors we know that the results of our efforts will survive us and that we leave a legacy of doing good in the world.

Thank you.

The Joy of Information

Do you need a side by side of last years’ club goals and giving and  the club goals for 2015-2016? Many of us need a sense of how accurate and purposeful the current club goals are in comparison to what clubs did last year.  Are current goals unrealistically low or high? Do any of the goals need to be adjusted to be more objective?

So for your use, Joy Kline has compiled a Foundation Report July 2015 which provides the Excel Ladyinformation described above.  She has sorted the information by areas to make it easier for Foundation Advocates, Area Governors, and Club Foundation Chairs to use the information. As she adds other categories of giving to this monthly report, we can slice and dice the spreadsheets so that you get the reports in printable chunks. In the meantime enjoy this first ‘Joy Report’ of the Rotary year and think of her caring efforts to provide news we can use quickly. Though Area Governors and Area Governors have access to the clubs’ reports for their areas and Club Foundation Chairs have access to their own club’s reports, sometimes it is handy to have information already compiled.

Joy, a member of the Goochland Club, is a banker.  In fact, she is the Executive Vice-President of Retail Banking at Village Bank.  Joy is a respected Rotary leader and Foundation Donor.  She is a past Area Governor, a graduate of the Rotary Leadership Insititute, a Foundation Benefactor, a Sustaining Member, and a key member of the Development team of the District Rotary Foundation Committee.  She also has a great sense of humor as exemplified by the Excel spreadsheet skirt she fashioned and modeled at the Foundation Workshop above.

Shout Outs

LT. Governor Mike Jallo for his encouragement of the Area Governors in delegating access to Foundation Advocates.  Also appreciate his cheerfulness and great, great sense of humor.

Foundation Advocate Paul Strong for his email about visiting his new grandchild in Florida.

Foundation Advocate Jim O’Brien for keeping me updated on delegation issues and his contacts with his clubs.

Foundation Advocate Jan Rowley for alerting me to a particular issue with her delegated access.

Area Governor Frank Ferrante for helpfully reaching out to me, even though he was in hospital.

Foundation Advocate Dan Jones for his insightful work regarding club and member recognition points.

D7600 DCO Debbie Wall who tolerates our sometimes whiny requests for help with grace and encouragement.

— Have a super holiday.  Catch you on the flip side.

Recognition Points … going where other clubs have gone before

Club Foundation Chairs, EREY, Every Rotarian Every Year Report, Recognition Points

Where does the phrase ‘dog days of summer’ come from?

If you know … please share.

In the meantime … it is a great time of year for Advocates to shake off the beach sand and connect with the Club Foundation Chairs. Building a one-on-one relationship with each Club Foundation Chair  is just such a super way to cement the connections that will allow you to assist their clubs as the Rotary year progresses.  Pick up the phone, send an email, or join a Club Foundation Chair at his or her club meeting. The Foundation Advocates, the Club Foundation Chairs, and the Area Governors can be remarkable teams to take the District 7600 Foundation Giving and Grants programs to Freedom Tower heights.  No one in Rotary does a job alone.

EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year)

Ken Hodge

Ken

Do you say ‘EEEEE-RAY’ or ‘Eerie?’ … doesn’t matter. What matters is that Every Rotarian Every Year gives to The Rotary Foundation. Why?  Because after three years 50% of what is given in one year comes back to the District to support grants, both local and global. We are Rotarians and we are about ‘doing good in the world.’ The District Foundation Committee Development Chair, Ken Hodge, wrote a heartwarming article, EREY is for Everyone, which describes the importance of EREY.  Last Rotary year (2014-2015) 16% of District 7600 Rotarians did not give to the Foundation. This year our mission as Foundation leaders is help every club become an EREY Club.  Are you in?

Delegation of Access to Foundation Chairs

The delegation of access to Foundation Advocates by the Area Governors is coming along … slowly.  It is the dog days of summer, you know.  Lt. Governor  Mike Jallo plans to reach out personally this week to the 6 Area Governors who have yet to delegate access.  When access to your clubs’ reports has been completed you will receive an email notice from Rotary International to that effect.  Plunge in and start accessing those reports, because …

There is building momentum in the clubs to understand and harvest Recognition Points implementing what they learned at the Foundation Workshop. TRF awards a recognition point for every dollar donated to the Annual Fund whether the donation is from a club or from an individual member.   These Recognition Points can be used by the club and by members to recognize individuals and to encourage giving. The information regarding the number of recognition points available is in the reports of each club …  just giving you a heads up. Scope out two articles regarding how The Historic Triangle and the Petersburg clubs have used the Recognition Points in the July and August issues of the Features.  Those issues are in your email inbox and on the home page of http://www.rotary7600.org.

Have a great week.

52 Weekly TRF Messages, Area Governors, Bill Billings, Dan Jones, Delegation of Access, Delegation Tool, Dennis Wool, EREY, Foundation Advocates, Frank Ferrante, James O'Brien, Recognition Points

Status Update on Delegation of Access To Foundation Advocates

Friday, August 14, District Governor Gary sent an email to the 17 Area Governors (AGs) instructing them to use the delegation tool to delegate club access through June 30, 2016, to their counterpart area Foundation Advocates.

To-date only 5 and 1/2 of the delegations have been accomplished.  So, you hale and hardy Advocates … if you have not received an email from Rotary International that the AG has delegated access to the clubs in your area, you need to contact your AG and ask him or her to accomplish this important task soonest.

If you need help contacting your AG contact me … 804-691-8486 or woodwardcd@aol.com.  Thanks to the Advocates who have personally informed me that they have received their delegation notices.

Why this delegation Matters

As Foundation Advocates you are the personal representatives of the District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair, Jim Probsdorfer, to the clubs in your areas.  With this access you can look at data and reports for your area clubs. The AG still has access, so, this delegation does two things … it makes it easier for you and your counterpart AG to co-ordinate on assisting clubs in accomplishing  important goals … and it gives you as Advocates the means to fulfill your role as Jim’s liaison with you clubs.
