World Polio Day … Interact & Rotaract Clubs & the Purple Pinkie Campaign:

Shortly, Chester Rotarian Mary Elmore (‘Boo’) will have a more complete report on the number of Purple Pinkie and other events held by the Interact and Rotaract clubs sponsored by the Rotary clubs of District 7600.  These events helped raise funds and public awareness about the effort by Rotary to eradicate the Wild Polio Virus.  Thanks to postings on social media, many members of the public had the chance to ask about the significance of the ‘Purple Pinkie’ and learn about our fight against polio.  Thank you Boo and the District 7600 Interact and Rotaract clubs!

How Annual Fund Giving Can Return to the District:

Ken Hodge, District Foundation Development Chair, provides his interpretation of how Annual Fund Giving by District 7600 Rotarians can return to the District and provide the funding for district and global grants in this AF Comes Back to You-AwarenessArticle2. This is definitely information to share and discuss with your clubs, especially during November … Foundation Month.  Enjoy and share.

Shoutouts To:

The following who are among the brave Rotarians inviting members of the District Rotary Foundation Committee to speak at their clubs in honor of Foundation Month!

Cynthia Mitchell, Foundation Advocate and member of the Lawrenceville Club (Oct 29)

Randy Cash, District Annual Giving Chair and member of the South Hill Club (Nov 5)

Fall is all About The Rotary Foundation … and the wonder of trees

Don’t forget to look at the Trees:

The challenge of this blog is not what to write to be of timely use to Foundation Advocates, Club Foundation Chairs, and to all devotees of The Rotary Foundation.  The challenge is what not to write and how to keep the blog short so it is useful and readable.

This weekend on a quick weekend trip to catch the colors in the Shenandoah Valley, this beautiful tree in downtown Staunton caught one’s breath.  It is probably passed by during the summer and winter without much thought.  But here in the glory of color it arrests one’s movement and invites contemplation.

In the Fall the Foundation is in full Color:

Like the tree, the Foundation is present year round.  Its structure, its contribution to our world, its invitation to us  to enjoy its mission … is ever present.  It is in Fall that we take the time to view The Rotary Foundation in its true beauty and our own involvement in its health and reach.

District 7600 clubs and individual Rotarians will receive recognition for their involvement in the success of The Rotary Foundation’s Mission to ‘Do Good In The World’ on November 12 in Williamsburg at the Rotary Foundation Awards Banquet.  Please consider registering and inviting your spouse to join in this Community of Rotary celebration.

Fall also celebrates End Polio Now with World Polio Day:

Please support your local and area Interactors and Rotaracters when they celebrate the near eradication of Polio by holding Purple Pinkie events across the District on October 23rd & 24th.  Contact Boo Elmore of the Chester Club for more information.

Shout Out to the October Issue of Features:

The October issue of the  District Foundation Newsletter ‘Features’ was published by Diana Gulatta this morning (October 19).  It is in your email or you can visit it on rotary7600.org.  It covers District Foundation news in far more detail than this little blog.  Don’t see it in your email?  Check your spam folder.

Are your clubs ready for Rotary Foundation Month?

Great club interest in global grants

Before the lead topic which is Rotary Foundation Month, let’s pause to reflect on this week’s header.  It features our District Foundation Committee Chair and Past District Governor, Jim Probsdorfer,  addressing remarks to the standing-room-only global grants session at the District Conference.  He wasn’t the only speaker.  A delegation from the Innsbrook Club & Friends of Barnaby spoke of their partnership and multi-club project in Honduras, and Roma Frye of the Newport News Club described a recent three-bridge, Bridges to Prosperity project in Africa.  It also was a partnership and multi-club project. These two projects included District 7600 clubs which were smaller than the lead clubs, but gave those clubs a chance to get skin in the game on large scale international projects.  SuAnne Bryant is the go-to person for more information on global grants.

November -Rotary Foundation Month

Yesterday the Foundation Advocates received a resource packed email which originated with Liz Lazar, our Annual Giving Officer at The Rotary Foundation.  She covers Zones prouddonor33 & 34 which happily includes District 7600.  The email is reprinted here, November Foundation Month, and you are invited to refer to it as you encourage or arrange for your club(s) to participate and advocate in a major way for The Rotary Foundation during the month of November. Many of you are are Foundation Advocates, Area Governors, Club Foundation Chairs, or Foundation groupies, but whatever your role or interest please encourage your clubs to make the most of the resources (with links) provided by Liz.

Foundation Awards Banquet-2014-2015 Awards

November 12 is the date of our Annual Foundation Awards Banquet in Williamsburg at the Colonial Heritage Country Club. Anne Matthews, Past Rotary International Vice-President will be our keynote speaker.  It will be a packed two hour dinner and program during which many clubs from our district will be recognized for their commitment and accomplishments. Registration is open on www.dacdb.com.  Get it on your calendar, register early, and bring your spouse and fellow club members.  Make it a gala evening to remember.

Shout out

This shout out is for Boo Elmore of the Chester Club who is organizing the World Polio Day efforts of the district Interact and Rotaract Clubs which will host Purple Pinkie events on October 23rd & 24th.  Find one and get your pinkie done!
