April 7 – Today is the Day!

Please consider donating today online to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation on myrotary.org and have your individual donation up to $500 matched with Recognition Points. If you give $100 more than last year, that $100 will be matched 2:1 with Recognition Points. You can just see that Paul Harris Fellow Recognition around the bend, can’t you? Or maybe that next Paul Harris Fellow + level.

Remember you must already have an account set up at myrotary.org as it takes a couple of days for a new account to become active.

An aside-COVID is no match for Rotary

Rotary is beating Polio. We can beat COVID. Take care, be safe!

Acronyms & #s … What Fun!

To ensure that District Foundation Endowment Chair, Bill Billings, doesn’t report this blog to the Acronym Police … TRF stands for The Rotary Foundation. The editor will add this cryptic character, a “#”, which in “digispeak” is called a hashtag. So here’s to #TRF.

Another salute goes to the District Rotary Foundation Committee or #DRFC. In common argot, DRFC can also stand for the District Rotary Foundation Chair. Sorry, Bill. Acronyms can have more that one reference. In our case, our DRFC is Chuck Arnason.

So now, thank you, Rotarians of District 7600. Our DRFC year has been successful and fun, so far with more to come as we transition toward the 2019-2020 Rotary year.

We had our first $1,000,000 giving year, held our first celebration of National, Mustard Day thanks to David Rosenthal and Neva Lynde, and have seen the most creative Christmas Sweater every worn by a #DRFC.

So thanks to all District 7600 Rotarians. You are the tops. Oh, if you don’t know why a hashtag matters, ask your 12 year old children or grandchildren.

Recognition of Clubs for support of The Rotary Foundation.

November 9, 2017, is the date of the 2017 Foundation Banquet.  It is at this event that clubs are recognized for various levels of support for The Rotary Foundation (“TRF”).  It is both heart-warming and educational.  It is also a chance to invite spouses to an elegant Rotary dinner where they will see the results of their loved one’s Rotary efforts.  It is a great sharing evening.

We are honored this year to have Ron Ferrill, Rotary International Director for Zones 33 and 34, as our keynote speaker.  If you haven’t heard him speak before, you are in for a treat.  Of course, he knows so much about Rotary, but he is also a world-class raconteur and joke teller.  You’ll want to jot down some of his stories.  We’ll provide more details about his biography in the next few weeks, just to whet your appetite.

This year there will be a number of awards presented considering that we broke records last year in TRF giving.

As part of Rotary’s year-long centennial celebration of The Rotary Foundation during the 2016-17 year – the global membership organization’s charitable arm, Rotary clubs raised $304 million to support positive, lasting change in communities around the world.

DRFC Report Jun 2017-PicWe set our own records during the Centennial Year.  The members of District 7600 established a new high in Per Capita Giving of $229.40, which is an 8.5 percent increase over our previous high of $211.44.  That places the members of our district in the top 5 percent of giving Rotarians worldwide.  We also set new highs in Annual Fund giving of $632,444 and Total Giving of $791,292, placing District 7600 at second in Zone 33.  What an awesome accomplishment!

So, please register before November 2 for this fabulous event.  The registration is open on dacdb.com calendar.  The cut-off date for registration is November 2.  It is necessary to have a cut-off date because planning food for an audience of that size requires lead time.  We know you understand.

Publisher’s Note:  The usual publication day for our weekly blog will now be on Thursdays.  For years we have called it the Tuesday blog, but schedules change from time to time.  Hope you are still on board.
